A meeting was held on 6th August 2008 at the Sarragachies Mairie.
The aim was to research the older houses in the Sarragachies Commune.
At the next meeting, on the 21st August, we were shown the commune records held by the Mairie, and how to use them and cross reference them. These ledgers dated back to 1830. No wearing of white gloves for these volumes - they were treated respectfully, but they were books that held information that we all wanted to know.
Some of the volumes were wearing thin. Others had traces of bookworm long dead or flown away, whatever book worms do.
Many of the entries were written in the most beautiful and ornate handwriting.
